Audi R8 LMS ultra

Audi’s customer GT3 racer of the early 2010s — R8 LMS ultra in 6-stud Speed Champions form.

Set #75873 2016 178 pieces 6-stud Retired

The Audi R8 LMS ultra was the customer FIA GT3 evolution of the original R8 LMS, introduced in 2012. It ran a naturally-aspirated 5.2-litre V10 derived from the road R8’s, in a tube-frame chassis built by Audi quattro GmbH. By the time the next-generation R8 LMS arrived in 2015, the LMS ultra had taken hundreds of customer-team race wins worldwide.

Audi R8 LMS ultra

Customer GT3 racer

The R8 LMS ultra was developed by quattro GmbH (now Audi Sport GmbH). It used a 5.2-litre naturally-aspirated V10 — the same FSI engine architecture as the R8 V10 road car — regulated under FIA GT3 to ~530 hp.

It won the Nürburgring 24 Hours in 2012 and 2014, the Bathurst 12 Hour in 2012, and multiple Blancpain GT Series titles. By 2015 it was succeeded by the second-generation R8 LMS, but customer cars continued running into the late 2010s in regional series.

The build

Six-stud R8 LMS

75873 is the 6-stud Speed Champions chassis. The R8 LMS’s low-slung silhouette and large fixed rear wing translate well; the wing is a separate printed element.

The Audi R8 LMS Cup white-and-red livery is delivered through stickers across the side-pods and roof.
