BMW M4 GT3 & BMW M Hybrid V8 Race Cars

Two BMW racers, two endurance philosophies — the customer-spec M4 GT3 and the LMDh-class M Hybrid V8.

Set #76922 2024 676 pieces 8-stud Current

BMW returned to top-class endurance racing in 2024 with the M Hybrid V8, the brand’s first prototype since the V12 LMR took Le Mans in 1999. At the same time it kept building the M4 GT3 — its bread-and-butter customer race car for everything from the Nürburgring 24 Hours to the IMSA GTD class. This Speed Champions dual-pack ties the two together: the same M-stripe livery, two completely different cars, one shared race weekend.

GT3 RACER

BMW M4 GT3

Customer race car

The M4 GT3 is the customer side of the M Motorsport ledger. Built around the road-car G82 M4 monocoque, it runs a 590-hp twin-turbo straight-six and a sequential gearbox to the GT3 ruleset. Since 2022 it has won the Nürburgring 24 Hours, the Spa 24 Hours, and multiple IMSA GTD rounds.

BMW sells the M4 GT3 to private teams; what you do with it is your problem. Schubert Motorsport, Walkenhorst, Rowe Racing, Turner Motorsport — the customer list reads like a who’s-who of European GT teams.

LMDh PROTOTYPE

BMW M Hybrid V8

BMW’s top-class return

The M Hybrid V8 runs the LMDh ruleset shared with Cadillac, Porsche, Acura and Lamborghini in IMSA, and steps up to the WEC Hypercar class for 2024. It uses a Dallara LMP2-based monocoque, a 4.0-litre BMW P66/3 twin-turbo V8, and a Bosch/Williams-supplied hybrid system on the rear axle.

It took its first IMSA win at Watkins Glen 2024, and BMW raced it at Le Mans for the first time the same year. The car is BMW’s most public top-class endurance commitment since the V12 LMR’s 1999 Le Mans victory.

Display ideas

  • Place the M Hybrid V8 in front of the M4 GT3 to mirror an IMSA pit-lane layout (prototype first, GT cars behind).
  • Add any LEGO® M-power road-car set to bracket street-to-track BMW heritage.

People

The 2024 BMW Motorsport line-up paired a customer car with a factory prototype. The names below are the engineers and drivers who turned the M Hybrid V8 from concept to running chassis, and who keep the M4 GT3 winning races worldwide.

Andreas Roos

Head of BMW M Motorsport

Roos took over BMW M Motorsport in 2022 and led the M Hybrid V8 programme through its 2023 IMSA debut and 2024 Le Mans campaign. The decision to run both the M Hybrid prototype and the M4 GT3 customer programme in parallel — and to pair them visually as in this set — was made under his direction.

Sheldon van der Linde

M4 GT3 / DTM driver

South African driver Sheldon van der Linde is one of BMW's most successful M4 GT3 drivers, with a 2022 DTM championship and multiple GT World Challenge wins. The M-stripe livery on the M4 GT3 in this set is the version van der Linde and his teammates campaign in international customer racing.

Maurizio Leschiutta

M Hybrid V8 chief engineer

Leschiutta led the M Hybrid V8's engineering programme, including the call to use a P66/3 V8 derived from BMW's previous F1 days rather than develop a new powerplant. The prototype in this set carries the engineering choices his team made.

The build

The M4 GT3

The M4 GT3 is the more conventional shape — a road-car silhouette with a front splitter, sky-high rear wing, and the M4's signature large kidney-grille treatment delivered as a single printed tile. The 8-stud Speed Champions chassis suits its proportions well.

The M-stripes (blue, indigo, red) run from front fender across the door to the rear quarter — pay attention to the sticker order around the front fender, where the indigo-blue panel must align across two body pieces.

The M Hybrid V8

The M Hybrid V8 is a closed-cockpit LMDh prototype, and the build leans into the angular aero shapes — the curved engine cover, the high rear wing, and the deep front splitter. The rear lights are printed elements; the headlights are clear bricks with printed inner detail.

The black-and-M-stripe livery is split: stickers for the long flank panels, printed tiles for the front fender 'M Motorsport' lettering. The #24 race number is a sticker.

Why this pairing matters

BMW Motorsport ran both cars in 2024 deliberately — the customer programme funds the brand, the prototype builds the legend. Pairing them in one box reflects how BMW's racing strategy actually works in practice.

Display pairing: 76925 (Aston Martin Safety Car + AMR23) is a comparable factory-and-customer pairing, making this an interesting comparison set for AFOL displays of works-and-customer race programmes.
