Every LEGO® Speed Champions Historical Modern Set
Six LEGO® Speed Champions sets carry the “historical-modern” tag — dual-vehicle pair-up sets that put a current car next to a vintage ancestor. It's the catalogue's most distinctive structural pattern. Five of the six are 6-stud-era 2016-2019 releases; the format gave the line a way to tell two-generation stories in a single price point, and laid the groundwork for the 8-stud era's continued emphasis on vehicle pairings.

The launch year established the pattern. Ford F-150 Raptor & Ford Model A Hot Rod (LEGO® 75875, 2016) paired the modern off-road pickup with a 1928-1931 Ford Model A done up in classic American hot-rod treatment — the Raptor as the factory-built modern descendant of every backyard hopped-up depression-era roadster. Chevrolet Camaro Drag Race (LEGO® 75874, 2016) folded the historical-modern format into a single set rather than a dual: the modern Pro Stock-style Camaro alongside crew-chief minifigures referencing American drag-strip culture going back to the 1960s. Porsche 919 Hybrid and 917K Pit Lane (LEGO® 75876, 2016) put the LMP1-era 919 Hybrid alongside a 1970 Porsche 917K — the same race team's cars separated by 46 years, both Le Mans winners (917K in 1970, 919 in 2015-2017).
The 2017-2019 wave kept the format alive. 2016 Ford GT & 1966 Ford GT40 (LEGO® 75881, 2017) is the cluster's most structurally clean dual — the 2016 Ford GT raced at Le Mans on the 50th anniversary of the 1966 GT40 victory in the same week, in the same class, with the same #66 race number. The set was issued in 2017 to mark that anniversary one model year after it happened. 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon and 1970 Dodge Charger R/T (LEGO® 75893, 2019) put the supercharged-Hemi 840-hp Demon next to the 1970 Charger R/T — fifty years of Mopar muscle, with both cars sharing the rear-wheel-drive supercharged-V8 rear-axle-howl muscle-car identity. 1967 Mini Cooper S Rally and 2018 MINI John Cooper Works Buggy (LEGO® 75894, 2019) paired the Monte Carlo-winning 1967 Mini with the 2018 Dakar buggy — the only rally-themed set in the historical-modern cluster, and the most contested pair-up in the catalogue (same name, completely different car).
The pattern continues into the 8-stud era under different theme names but is most-densely concentrated in this hub. The thread across all six sets is that putting two cars in one box transforms what each car means — the modern car borrows authenticity from the vintage one, and the vintage car gets framed against its modern descendant.
